Leadership in Public Governance (LIPG)
Leadership in Public Governance (LIPG) is neither a degree program nor a major. It is a student guidance system provided and operated autonomously by the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
Under the system, the School of Interdisciplinary Studies proposes “recommended courses” to each student to help him or her make wise career decisions upon graduation. Students then design their own courses based on their interests and aspirations under the guidance of an academic advisor. Once the course plan is developed, the School encourages the students to complete the courses.
This system helps students design their own major and successfully complete their planned courses of study with the support of academic advisors.
ELIGIBILITY
- In principle, this system is open to students in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies only.
- However, any Korea University student in the Public Governance and Leadership interdisciplinary major can enroll in the system.
OBJECTIVES
Leadership in Public Governance (LIPG)
- This is a recommended course system for non-law major undergraduates to help them learn the basics of public governance. It aims to nurture future professionals equipped with the basic legal knowledge necessary to resolve various conflicts and problems affecting contemporary society and contribute to social integration.
- This recommended course system will be helpful for students seeking to become public servants, legal professionals, diplomats, business leaders, scholars, and leaders of civic societies.
- School of Interdisciplinary Studies students whose primary major is in the humanities (literature, history, philosophy, etc.) are especially encouraged to join the recommended course system. Under the system, they will be trained to develop competencies required in the field of public governance in addition to the humanities.
HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS
- Students who wish to join the system undergo an interview with their advisor after the second semester of their first year to identify and select recommended courses suitable to their career interests. Each semester, they evaluate their academic achievements and aptitude through meetings with their advisor and apply that evaluation to class selection and course registration for the following semester.
- Students completing the planned courses with an average GPA of 3.0 or higher are issued a Certificate of Completion by the Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies on the recommendation of their advisor.
OVERVIEW OF THE SYSTEM

- Students select a system during their initial meeting with their advisors.
- At the start of each semester, advisors meet with students to evaluate their academic achievements and offer advice on course selection for the following semester.
