Leadership in Public Governance (LIPG)

The following policy is neither a degree program nor a major, but an autonomous student guidance program provided and operated by the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Thus, the School of Interdisciplinary Studies provides a recommendation of courses for future career decisions after graduation. With the guidance of their academic advisior, students develop and follow their own course guidelines based on their career interests and aspirations.

By following this system, students could design their own major and successfully complete their planned course guidelines with the support of their academic advisors.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. In principle, this system is granted to students from the School of Interdisciplinary Studies only.
  2. However, the system is open to any Korea University student who partakes in the Public Governance and Leadership Interdisciplinary Major.

OBJECTIVES

Leadership in Public Governance (LIPG)

  1. LIPG provides the foundation for public governance as a recommended course system composed with Undergraduate Liberal Arts subjects for non-law major undergraduates. It aims to nurture future professionals equipped with basic legal knowledge necessary for resolving various conflicts and problems affecting contemporary society, leading to social integration.
  2. This course system is recommended for students seeking to become public officials, legal professionals, diplomats, business leaders, scholars, and leaders of civic societies.
  3. Students from SIS who chooses the primary major of humanities (literature, history, philosophy, etc.) are especially encouraged to join the recommended course system, as they will be trained to develop competencies required in the field of public governance in addition to humanities.

HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS

  1. Students who wish to join the system undergoes an interview with their advisor after the second semester of their freshman year to select a recommended curriculum that suits to their career interests. Each semester, they evaluate their academic achievements and aptitude by meetings with their advisor, applying that evaluation to class selection and course registration for the following semester.
  2. Students who complete the planned courses with an average GPA of 3.0 or higher are issued a Certificate of Completion by the Dean of SIS with the recommendation of their advisor.

OVERVIEW OF THE SYSTEM

  2. Students select a system during their initial meeting with their advisors. (In case of Public Governance and Leadership Convergence major students, their professor-in-chief)
  3. At the start of each semester, advisors meet with students to evaluate their academic achievements and offer advice on course selection for the following semester.
